A Message from Mrs. Cross, Principal

Dear PS/MS 146 Community,

Welcome to the 2026–2027 academic school year! It is with great excitement and pride that I welcome our returning families and extend a warm welcome to all of our new students and families. As we begin another year together, I am reminded of what makes PS/MS 146 The Howard Beach School so special. We have a shared love of learning, strong sense of community, and commitment to helping every Blue Hawk soar.

As a dedicated educator for 27 years and the proud Principal of PS/MS 146 for the past five years, it has been an honor to work alongside our talented staff, supportive families, and incredible students. I remain deeply committed to ensuring that every child feels valued, challenged, and inspired each day.

This year, we will continue to focus on strengthening foundational literacy skills across all content areas. We will provide students with meaningful opportunities to read, write, speak, listen, and think critically in every classroom. We will also implement our new i-Ready Math curriculum, giving our students opportunities to build strong mathematical foundations, deepen their understanding, and apply their learning to real-world situations.

Another important focus will be writing across the content areas and creating classrooms where students engage in deep discussions with one another. We want our Blue Hawks to feel confident expressing their ideas, ask thoughtful questions, listen to different perspectives, and build their ability to communicate and collaborate with others.

Just as important as academic growth are the peer and community relationships our students develop each day. We will continue to foster a school culture built on respect, kindness, belonging, responsibility, and teamwork. We believe that when students feel connected, valued, and supported, they are empowered to take risks as learners and reach their fullest potential.

At PS/MS 146, we believe in educating the whole child. Our shared love of learning extends beyond the traditional classroom through the arts, technology, and physical education, ensuring that we meet the diverse needs of all our Blue Hawks. These experiences provide students with opportunities to discover their passions, express their creativity, develop new skills, and build confidence.

As your Principal, I look forward to partnering with our dedicated staff, families, and community to make the 2026–2027 school year one of growth, achievement, connection, and Blue Hawk pride.
